Looking at picking up a 1979 928 that needs new intake boots and gaskets. How hard a job is that? Thanks. Edit: image for boot and intake setup not of the actual cars intake.

You might wanna call up a shop and ask them for advice. Better yet, make yourself an account or two, and ask at either one of these excellent Porsche forums, or both!

That looks like a spider form hell.

Not sure if I can help you there. The better question is, why is there a throttle body from a TPI engine on a 928 intake setup??

It’s a spider from Zuffenhausen!

Hey that worked! I like 928s, but haven’t wrenched on one in awhile. The early 4.5 cars like that 79 run Bosch K-jet injection that most people think is sorcery, but it’s simple and mechanical. I bring it up because the hardest part of the manifold job is disassembling the injection. Still, it’s not hard, just time consuming. Assume it needs injector seals too. I have the injector test & cleaning setup, it’s always worth benching them. I also have the factory 928 manuals at the shop if you need any detailed info. Gimme a call at the shop if you want.
The budget 928 to have is the ‘85-up 5.0 4-cam 928S, they’re much, much better. The 4.5s are pretty slow.

Right but its $750... Its a bit of ratty in the interior. Runs but the AF mix is way off, he says due to those. What do you think?

I hesitate to encourage you to jump into a black hole time and money vampire, but for under a grand you could tinker on it. K-jet is easy to deal with if you know what you’re getting into, and the most important things to remember are fuel pressure, fuel pressure, fuel pressure, and vacuum leaks. K-jet hates vacuum leaks, and if the fuel pressure or volume is at all suspect, all bets are off. Parts for the injection are also really expensive now. Interior bits are also not cheap. I’d also be surprised if all the gauges work. Is it manual or automatic? If an auto, it’s a Mercedes-Benz gearbox in the back, and is pretty reliable if serviced. The manuals are pretty stout too, and unlike the 924/44, the clutch is pretty easy because you can remove the bellhousing without taking out the entire torque tube. Anyway...

Supposedly had a tranny service not long ago. The tach is the only gauge that didn’t seem to work. Its an auto unfortunate, but that means the BF could drive it once its running well. As for the interior, Id just assume make it a stripper and just have the seats really nice. The pop ups even work lol.

Could be fun as a beater then, just try to limit how much you spend on it because it’s unlikely you’ll get it back. Oh, and you should put googly eyes on the headlights.
